What Emotional Abuse
Really Sounds Like
It's important that we confront the reality of abuse to understand it. These examples are intended to provide a realistic perspective on how verbal and emotional abuse can look, sound or feel. Yet these represent only one person's experience and only a few incidents. The impact of emotional abuse or coercive control is its CONSTANCY over time.
Every situation is unique but violence can be characterized as abusive whenever a person feels consistently threatened in their own home, when there is a pattern of ongoing and intentional disruption to his or her sense of well-being.
